Ten people, including an infant, have died following overnight landslides in Syangja district.
According to the District Police Office, nine people of the same family from Waling Municipality were killed in the landslide that occurred on Thursday morning.
District Police Office Spokesperson DSP Rajendra Adhikari informed that a seven-month-old baby, three women, two men, a teenage girl and two boys were among the deceased. The authorities are yet to ascertain the guardian and identity of the infant.
“One person, a 16-year-old girl, has been rescued alive and has been referred to Pokhara following first aid treatment at Waling Hospital,” said Adhikari.
Likewise, a 16-year-old boy died in another landslide that occurred at around 2am last night and buried two houses in Gautam Daanda of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality.
The body of the deceased was recovered at around 5am this morning by a rescue team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and locals.
Similarly, six persons have gone missing after three houses were buried when a landslide struck a settlement in Rambha Rural Municipality, in Palpa.
“Five people have also gone missing in Belauja of the same rural municipality after two houses were buried in a landslide last night,” said Ward chairman Uman Singh Saru. While a pregnant woman is missing after a house was buried in another landslide that occurred at Surumdaanda of the same village.
Chairman of the rural municipality Bishnu Prasad Bhandari said that rescue efforts have not begun as the landslides have not stopped owing to continuous rain.
